BAKING IN NEW ZEALAND Qualified bakers considering working in New Zealand will find a ready welcome and many opportunities. New Zealand is well known for its great lifestyle, fine wines and wonderful fresh food.
As in many other countries, there is a shortage of qualified craft bakers and pastrycooks in New Zealand, but few countries can match the New Zealand's many opportunities and resources. We have a brief overview here of the New Zealand baking industry in 2001. (It hasn't changed much since then.) The overview comes from an article in the New Zealand Bakers Journal. If you're serious about moving to New Zealand, you should start by looking here for general information.
MIGRATING TO NEW ZEALAND If you wish to migrate to New Zealand to work, you need to apply to the New Zealand Immigration Service for resident status. New Zealand immigration and residency rules change from time to time.
Before looking closely at baking opportunities, therefore, you should look at whether you would qualify to enter the country. That might depend on your country of origin, your education, the standard of English you speak (there are language tests), your particular skills, age, and other factors such as whether you are a UN registered refugee.
