Bakery of the Year Competition™ 2011 Results

Shane and Kathy Kearns of Viands Bakery in Te Awamutu  are celebrating once again after winning the BIANZ Bakery of the Year Competition™. They won the Bakels Pie Awards just a few weeks ago. The Bakery of the Year Competition™ results were announced at the BIANZ Annual Awards Dinner in Napier on Saturday night, attended by over 200 baking enthusiasts from around New Zealand. There was stiff competition and judges said the results for the top bakeries were close. The standard of judging and entries was high this year according to Chief Judge Paul Hansen, with flavour being the main sticking point when it came to awarding high scores. All entries were independently assessed by five judges, and a Chief Judge and Auditor were also present.

Overall Winner – Viands Bakery - Te Awamutu

First Runner Up - Hastings City New World - Hastings

Second Runner Up – 10 O’ Clock Cookie Bakery & Café – Masterton
