It was their second big win this year after taking first place in the Hot Cross Bun Competition for the South Island earlier this year.
Chad Meehan from Kidds Cakes was delighted with the win and thanked his team for all the hard work they put into entering the competition. Kidds Cakes wins a Rondo Pastry sheeter from Burns & Ferrall and medals and trophies from the Baking Industry Association.
BIANZ Exectuive Officer Belinda Jeursen says the standard of entries was very high this year. "The judges had a hard time making decisions at times but it came down to flavour profile in the end." Judges tasted all entered products except for the decorated cake section.
Entries into the competition have been on display at Fine Food in Auckland since Sunday and have drawn crowds of foodies interested to see what New Zealand's best bakrs can produce. The Gingerbread House section has been particularly popular, with Kidds winning a Gold Medal in this section.
Olsers Bakery Wairoa came a close second, and 10 o' clock Cookie Bakery and Café was third overall. Hastings City New World was another big contender this year.
